Reflection 1 (1/21/19):
So far I think that I've made good progress on accomplishing the goals that I set for my independent study project. In terms of my general goals, I've definitely learned a lot about French language and culture, I've made a lot of connections between Spanish and French, and I've learned how to carry out a basic conversation with my language instructor. However, specifically, I haven't learned how to ask someone if they speak English, how to conjugate any verbs beyond the verb "avoir" (to have) and the verb "être" (to be). I'm also still struggling a lot with pronunciation, especially with words that contain an "r." When I pause between sentences, I also tend to say the word "y" which is the Spanish word for "and" as opposed to saying the French word for "and," which is "et." That's a habit I'm planning to work on during this next week of language learning. I'm also hoping to do some more research into the benefits of language learning and its applications to different careers that I might be interested in, because that is one goal that I haven't made any progress on at all.
